Thanks for nothing, Coleman.

A small storm sweeps through the Masai Mara and knocks down our Coleman tent again. First time was several months back and my request for a replacement part from Coleman fell into their black hole of a customer service department. I exchanged close to ten emails with their reps and they still can not tell me how to get a replacement part. So, most pictures are worth a thousand words...this picture is only worth eleven: "would you buy a Coleman product knowing they provide no support?" Storm has now passed...time to try and fix it, again.

A Happy Camel

It may look like the camel is angry...but he is really very happy....a big toothy smile.

Jerry Lee Lewis

This is Jerry Lee Lewis. He is our neighbor's "colorful" rooster. He comes over every morning and spends all day hanging out with our hens. I had to take his picture because our neighbors have a very healthy appetite for chicken so we weren't sure how long he'd be hanging around...our hens have quite the crush on him.

Stranger things have happened...

Here is a picture of a Jackal...with the hind legs of some small ungulate in his mouth as he is being chased by a Bustard.

The Inauguration

We celebrated the inauguration of our country's 44th president, Barack Hussein Obama, at a neighborhood bar and grill tonight. The lively crowd was silent throughout his speech, but cheered loudly not only for his references to Kenya, but also for his promises of what America would continue to represent. I am so proud of our country. God bless President Obama and the USA!

Breakdown...

Hard to complain about a breakdown with such wonderful scenery.

Through the Eyes of a Maasai

What do the Maasai see?  They live amongst the wildlife so they must see some cool critters...right?  Well, we loaned a digital camera to one of our Maa speaking friends, Daniel, and he'll be taking photos of what he sees...and we'll post them here alongside our photos.  Daniel lives just north of the Masai Mara and works as a guide for a safari lodge.  Here he is with Amanda...

Here are two of his first photos...

First Post of the New Year

We've been a bit busy lately...so here is our first post of the new year...an Albino Baboon that lives just north of the Talek River.
