Floating Carcasses

Amanda posted yesterday about some of the wildebeest drowning events we've witnessed over the last few weeks.  Well, one of the ways we determine how many drowned is to stand on the lower bridge and count the bodies as they float by below us.  It is extremely hard to accurately convey what this type of event looks like in the river and how it makes you feel.  We spent over three hours...standing on the bridge...counting...

To give you an idea...here is a video from the most recent drowning event.  The wildebeest drowned a few kilometers upstream from where I took this footage.  The bodies you see floating below us died probably one hour before they reached our location.

Over 3,000 animals died in the course of a few hours.
